Condition

The panel is uncradled, flat and stable. There is an old and yellowed varnish. Overall the paint surface has been very well retained and detail remains good. A small gouge can be seen at the extreme upper edge of the panel at center and a tiny nick in upper right background. There is a tiny loss and small surface scratch at lower right, and what appears to be a small old fill at the extreme bottom center edge. Under UV light: there are some small retouches to Mercury's lower face, back and arm, and a few very small retouches to Argus's hair and beard. Some other small retouches in background at center and in foreground. This painting could be hung as is, but would probably benefit from a light clean and fresh varnish.
