Literature

Condition
The painting has an old glue relining that is firm and stable. The surface is clean and the painting is presentable. The surface has been a bit pressed in the aforementioned relining and there are some very slight thinnesses in areas of the water, in sky upper right and in the browns of the ships. Despite this, the painting reads very well overall and presents a strong and very attractive image. Under UV light: there is some retouching over what appears to be an old repaired hole or tear in the sky at upper left; another series of retouches in the sky along center right and some in upper right. Other smaller scattered but more isolated retouches in water and sky and some on the boats. These restorations have been well applied and there is no need for further work.
Offered in a faux ebony wood frame.
