Description

  • Paulus Moreelse
  • The Holy Family
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The canvas has been firmly wax relined. The paint surface has been very well retained, though a bit pressed in the relining process. There is a minor scuff on the book at upper left. Examination under UV light reveals only a few very small retouches on Joseph's drapery and on book, on the green drapery at lower left, on the Virgin's veil, and one or two others scattered here and there. These are all minor retouches of a cosmetic nature. This painting is presentable and there is no need for further work. In an elaborately carved and gilt wood frame.
