Condition

The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. Both of these pictures can be hung in their current state. However, the restoration is not particularly good and could be improved. The paintings have glue linings. The cracking is slightly raised, but the paint layers are stable. The paintings are probably dirty. In the view of the Grand Canal, stretcher marks around the edges have received retouches, and there is a group of restorations in and around the orange cloud in the center of the left side. The details in all the architecture and vessels seem to be well preserved. The view of the Molo also shows retouches to the stretcher marks, in this case, in a group around the top of the Campanile in the upper left. Again the architecture and vessels are well preserved.
