Description

  • French School, 19th century
  • A girl and boy in a landscape
  • oil on canvas, unstretched and unframed

Condition

Oil on canvas, unframed and unstretched. The edges are uneven; the tacking edges are still visible along the majority of the left edge and the left side of the upper edge, though they are missing along the lower edge and the majority of the right edge. There is craquelure and associated losses, potentially from rolling, visible throughout the work, especially along the right edge and in the lower quarter of the work. Additional pinpoint losses between the two sitters faces, in the girl's neck, and in the background. Under UV light, there are small scattered areas of retouching in the upper left corner; in the background around and in the female sitter's proper right shoulder; a few small dots and dashes scattered in the background at lower right; as well as a few dots and dashes in the female sitters arm and décolletage.
