Description

  • Roman School, 16th Century
  • The Madonna and Child with the Infant Saint John the Baptist
  • oil on copper, unframed

Condition

Oil on copper, unframed. The copper is relatively flat aside from bumping and slight bending at the lower right corner; there is tape adhesive visible at all four edges verso. There are losses visible at the extreme edges, including a larger loss near the upper left edge as well as near the right lower edge. The surface appears to be in overall good condition aside from some minor surface dirt. Under UV light there are scattered pinpoint retouches visible throughout the Virgin Mary, Christ, and Saint John the Baptist. There are slightly larger areas of retouching in the extreme foreground.
