"Mon style est ma signature"

In the pantheon of master jewellers, Suzanne Belperron stands apart as one of the most innovative woman jewellery designers of the 20th century. Famously quoted to saying "Mon style est ma signature", Belperron insisted that the originality and uniqueness of her designs were so easily identifiable that it was not necessary for her to sign her creations.

Trained at the height of the Art Deco movement, Belperron found inspiration in nature's flora and fauna, fascinated by the splendor of their shapes and combinations of colours. Softening the geometric aesthetics commonly associated with the Art Deco era, her curvilinear pieces hinted at the rebellious spirit behind her elegant, reserved countenance.

Often designing bespoke pieces to suit her clients, the elite list of patrons included the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, the Begum Aga Khan, Nina Ricci and Elsa Schiapparelli to name but a few.

The two brooches offered in Lot 1673 exemplify Belperron's celebrated iconic style.
