Condition

The canvas appears original. The canvas undulates slighty in places, including at the corners, which is only visible under close inspection. There is frame abrasion to the extreme edges of the canvas. There is lifting and flakes of loss to the black shape at the centre of the left edge, the vertical black shape below, towards the lower left corner, to the centre of the extreme lower edge and to the green shape towards the lower right edge, with a small number of instances elsewhere. There are two fine vertical cracks to a black impasto element just below left of centre, with one or two possible historic losses to raised impasto tips elsewhere. There are fine lines of reticulation to the black pigment throughout, in keeping with the Artist's materials. There is light surface dirt and one or two instances of surface detritus. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals no obvious signs of retouching. The work is unframed. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
