Condition

Original canvas. There is a small patch to the canvas measuring roughly 1.5 by 4cm., to the reverse of the dog in the lower left corner, which may correspond to a small repair, although there is no fluorescence visible under ultraviolet light. The canvas undulates slightly in places, and there is a small pinhole with some corresponding loss, to the top of the dog in the lower left corner, but otherwise the canvas appears sound. There are some fine, isolated lines of craquelure in places, most apparent to the sky area, with some associated flecks of loss in places, primarily to an instance at the right side of the sky area. There is a scratch, with some minor associated loss, near the centre of the right vertical edge. There are some further tiny flecks of loss in places, including to an area of green pigment at the upper right vertical edge. There is evidence of some minor rubbing to the extreme edges of the canvas in places. There is some surface dirt, studio detritus and matter in places. Ultraviolet light reveals no obvious signs of fluorescence or retouching. The work is float mounted within a white painted wooden frame, held under perspex.
