Condition
The canvas is original. There are two repair patches visible to the reverse of the canvas in the upper left quadrant. The canvas undulates slightly in places and there is a stretcher line visible along the upper edge. There is some rubbing apparent around the edges of the canvas in places, with some resultant flecks of loss. There is a small push to the canvas towards the right side of the lower edge, with some resultant loss, and a further very small pressure mark to the cream pigment just below the red line. There are some scattered lines of craquelure to the work, most apparent in the black pigment in the upper third. There are one or two scuffs to the work and some surface dirt and studio detritus.
Ultraviolet light reveals some possible old spots of retouching to the black pigment in the upper third, corresponding to the aforementioned repair and the area around this.
The work is float mounted within a black painted wooden frame.
