Catalogue Note
FIRST EDITION. Widukind was a monk at Corvey during the later tenth century, and he is an important source for the history of the Saxons and the Ottonians from the fifth century to his own times. Included in this work are other histories such as Enea Silvio Piccolomini's Historia bohemica, Hermann graf von Neuenahr's work on the origins of the Franks, and Liutprand's account of tenth-century events in both Italy and Constantinople.
The History of the Danes by Saxo, written c. 1200, was first printed in Paris in 1512 and includes the tale of "Amlethus".
