folio (260 x 158mm.), Greek and Latin text, ruled in red, with blank leaf 3g4, late eighteenth-century red morocco gilt (attributed to Roger Payne on endleaf), gilt edges, somewhat spotted, title expertly cut down and extended at edges, spine slightly faded, very slight loss to head of spine

Admiral de Grasse, old pencil note in English noting his signature on the title page (which is now all but invisible); William O’Brien, bequest booklabel dated 1899, library stamps
De Grasse was commander of the French fleet at the Battle of the Chesapeake in 1781.
