Catalogue Note
The preface and afterword of the Greek text are addressed to students of languages by Ulrich Zwingli; copies are known with the preliminaries excised, presumably to remove Zwingli's presence. Zwingli was keen to emphasise that the study of classical texts could help with the interpretation of biblical texts such as the Psalms. Ceporinus was a teacher of Greek and Hebrew at Zwingli's theological college in Zurich, though he died young, shortly after the publication of this book.
