Catalogue Note

Following his series of articles on Aristophanes and Athenian manners for the Quarterly Review, Mitchell’s translations of the comedies were published by his great friend John Murray. Murray sent a copy of the first volume to Lord Byron, who described it as “excellent” and demanded the second part (letter to John Murray, 28-29 September 1820).
