Catalogue Note

The elegant engravings of various fish were taken from the works of Belon, Rondelet, Gesner and Salviati. Collaert's original series of engravings were issued after 1598, in a series of 26 plates, and this version has fewer plates but with the crocodile plate reused as the title-page.
