Catalogue Note
RARE. This is a reprint of the earliest book on fishing, Büchlein, wie man Fische und Vögel fangen soll mit den haenden, of which the earliest surviving copies were both printed in 1498, in Strassburg by Hupfuff (GW 5680) and in Erfurt by Sporer (GW 5681). There are numerous editions surviving from the early sixteenth century, most of which are recorded in single copies (see also lot 277). The woodcuts in this edition are copies of one in the Erfurt edition (the man fishing with a bow net) and of one in the earlier 1508 Hupfuff edition, though the woodcut in this 1510 edition is quite a crude copy.
