Condition

Overall, the condition of all the pieces is good, with some dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. Flask attributed to Mauer workshop: There is some stable splitting to the wood, consistent with the material, including a slightly open split through the snout of the boar on the left hand side. There are traces of polychromy, with losses mostly at the high points, and around the circular inset on the reverse. The flask was carved in two sections, and a joint is visible around the sides. Horn with hunting scene and geometrical pattern: There are a few minor losses to the geometric engraving on the reverse. There are a few nicks and scratches to the horn. The metal mounts to the top and bottom are slightly loose, but stable. There is minor warping to the metal at the spout. There is slight corrosion to the metal at the spout, which has led to a few minor holes. Horn and metal snuff box with hunting scene: There is some dark spotting to the inside of the bone, consistent with the material. There is minor oxidisation to the metal, which has led to very slight discolouration of the horn around the metal mounts. Powder flask with hunting scenes: The flask was made in sections, and a slightly open, but stable, split is visible around the bottom. There is some wear to the brown colouring at the top left hand corner on the reverse, and to the stopper in the spout. There is minor dark spotting in areas, consistent with the material. Small snuff box: There is a small split at the top, and some glue residue is visible on the inside of the box. There is rubbing to the relief with the ibexes on the inside. There is some stable splitting to the wood. The mounts are very slightly warped.
