Condition

This work is ready to hang. The canvas is unlined and well-stretched. The colors are vibrant, and the media layer is stable overall. Minor paint loss is present in the following locations: a thin two-inch vertical line along the extreme right edge of the canvas, one inch from the horse's nose; one spot measuring ¼ inch in diameter at the extreme lower center edge of the canvas; a few scattered pinpoint spots in the lower left corner along the extreme lower edge and at the extreme left edge in the mane of the horse. Two minor, stable areas of fine spiderweb craquelure are present, each measuring two inches in diameter: the first in the center on the horse's cheek, the second in the upper right corner, in the sky above the trees. Faint stretcher marks are present along each of the extreme edges, and minor buckling is present in the upper right corner of the canvas. Under ultraviolet light examination, inpainting becomes apparent in the following areas: six spots on the cheek of the horse, the largest measuring one and one half inches in length; two bands measuring one-half inch in length in the upper center, one inch from the upper edge of the canvas; a fine band around each of the extreme edges of the canvas. Some additional fluorescence occurs throughout due to the pigments utilized by the artist.
