Model 'Madone'
A rare orientalist embroidered satin dress

Condition

A rare Paul Poiret orientalist embroidered satin dress, ’Robe Madone’, circa 1921, no 3190, of loose tunic-shape the front panel with ethnic inspired embroidery in gold and silver, orange floss silks, small blue seed beads to the low neckline and cuffs, slight gathers to each hip, bust 100cm Wear and repairs to gathers at side hips and waist, wear side closure, scuffing to satin of left sleeve and slight wear to cuff opening, beads are largely intact but section missing on top curve of skirt. This would probably have had an under-dress to provide an insert at the decollete and extra length. Slights indentations to satin on front bodice. Faint mark on the plain lower section of front bodice where a stain was cleaned and hook closures are rusted making them difficult to use. Slight separation of seam at armhole (minor)
