Catalogue Note

The present lot and lots 4-5 were painted in the early 1920s and reflect Mainie Jellet's work with Albert Gleizes in Paris, exploring his theories of abstract construction. The compositions are based around the basic rectangular shape of the canvas or paper, which is translated or rotated to form complex two-dimensional structures.
