Catalogue Note

The presentation inscription reads: "From The New Jersey Little Falls Manufacturing Compy. To Francis Olmstead 1833".  

The Company had been incorporated in 1823 by John, Nicholas, and Warren Haight "for the sole purpose of manufacturing wool, cotton, flax, hemp & other articles into carpeting, flannels, bombasettes, and other articles." Francis Olmstead is listed in The Old Merchants of New York City (1863) as having been a partner in the house of Peter Remsen & Co.
