double-walled, embossed and chased with dense flowers on matted ground, leaf-wrapped twig handle, matching finial, the front engraved with arms, crest and motto, the circular stand matching and engraved with crest and motto in a garter

Condition

some rubbing to gilding at high points, some dark spots (traces of lacquer?), otherwise good, heavy weight and crisp

William Wilson partnered with his brother Robert from 1825 to 1846, then was on his own until his son Robert joined him in 1857; William died in 1859 and his son in 1863.  In 1860 the firm had 48 male and 6 female employees, assisted by 6-horsepower steam equipment.
