- marked on base STARR & MARCUS / NEW YORK and ENGLISH STERLING and numbered 244, the tongs by Ford and Tupper, New York, 1867-74

of boat form, the lightly matted body applied on both sides with vertical chevron bands flanked by stylized strapwork and tassels, the matching swing handle issuing from sphinx head terminals, one end engraved with initials MR, gilt interior. Together with similar sugar tongs topped with sphinx head. 2 pieces.
