Catalogue Note

The B.F. Avery Co.was founded by Benjamin Avery in Virginia in the 1830's, moved to Louisville, Ky. circa 1850, selling mostly plows and possibly patented the Sulky Plow, drawn by horse or mule.  The firm continued into the 20th century, expanding to tractors after World War I and afterwards went bankrupt.  We are grateful to Lisa Weaver of the Louisville Science Museum for this information.
