of trumpet form in circa 1600 styelethe partly lobed domed base rising to knopped baluster stem chased with strapwork and cast with shells and lion heads, the lower body of the cup with lobes on a matted ground, engraved below upper rim with conforming strapwork, the rim engraved "First Prize Open Ameteur [sic] one mile bicycle race, Morristown, N.J., June '98",  one side engraved "Won by Clarence Martin"

The firm of Bossard was founded by Johann Balthasar Bossard, 1809-1869 in Lucerne and continued by his son Johann Karl Bossard 1846-1914 and grandson Karl Thomas Bossard 1876-1939. It specialized in historicist silver , winning a gold medal at the 1889 Paris Exposition and Bossard was on the jury of the 1900 Exposition
