Catalogue Note

According to Martelé's records as recorded by Larry Pristo in Martele 950-1000 Gorham's Nouveau Art Silver, p. 406. coffee cups PVR were completed on 4 June 1920 and matching saucers PVS on 13 August 1920.  The cups were made in 156 hours and the saucers in 84 hours.  The name of the chaser has not been identified however it is known that the cups required 174 hours of chasing and the saucers 153 hours.  The net factory price for the set at the time of completion was $1,219.  The present lot matches a set of twelve two-handled bouillon cups PVT and saucers PVU.  Additionally, twelve matching sherbet cups PVV, were finished on 20 January 1920, and are illustrated by Pristo on p. 84.
