Catalogue Note

William Waldo Dodge, Jr. (1895-1971) was an architecture student, but after being severely wounded in WWI, was sent to a military hospital in Asheville, NC. Silversmithing was taught as occupational therapy and Dodge not only excelled but married his instructor and stayed in Asheville, opening a shop in 1924.In 1931, he patented his "waterfall" hammering technique. A matching "waterfall" bowl of 1931 is in the Asheville Art Museum, gift of William Waldo Dodge III.
