Condition

The medium is oil on canvas. The canvas is not lined. There is some bumping and pulling the canvas throughout. There is an uneven varnish applied. There is some mild surface dirt, and minor frame rubbing. Under UV: no apparent inpainting. The colors are strong, the work presents well.

This portrait depicts Tilda, Dorothea Tanning's aunt from Galesburg, Georgia. "Aunt Til" is mentioned in the artist's autobiographical writings, and in her poem Never Mind, first published in The New Yorker in 2008.
