Condition

The canvas has not been relined. There are three patches to the reverse of the painting, located in the center background above the figure's head, to the right of the figure and to her left shoulder. Each patch measures: 3 x 3 in, 7.5 x 2.5 in and 2.5 x 4 in. When examined under UV light, there is retouching to each of those locations. There is additional light scattered cosmetic retouching to the background in the upper half of the composition. There is a vertical line of craquelure and very minor paint loss to the area in the background to the right of the figure. Further minor nail-head sized area of paint loss to the lower left corner. The impasto is lively and strong.
