Condition
The canvas is strip-lined and the edges are reinforced with tape. Examination under UV light reveals a few fine strokes of retouching in the sky, notably along the upper edge and towards the centre of the left edge. There is an L-shaped line of retouching (approximately 6cm.) in the centre of the upper left quadrant associated with an old repaired tear to the canvas. There are two further spots of restoration to the trunk of the tree at the centre of the composition and another smaller spot of restoration at the upper right which are mostly visible from the reverse. There are some fine lines of shrinkage to the pigment in places. There are fine lines of craquelure relating to the stretcher bar running parallel to the upper, left and right edges. This work is in overall stable condition.
