Condition

The canvas is not lined. Examination under UV light reveals a few small spots of retouching to the sitter's neck. There are a few strokes of retouching to the background in the upper left quadrant. There are lines of paint shrinkage, predominantly to the yellow sunflowers, all of which are stable. The verso shows a very opaque and discoloured layer of varnish preventing the UV light from fully penetrating, however some degradation of the varnish and possible retouchings are visible along the lower edge. The paint surface on the verso is uneven due to the heavy impasto on the recto. This work is in overall good condition.
