Condition

The movement is running at time of cataloguing, however it was not tested for the accuracy of time or duration of the power reserve and may need service at the buyer's discretion. Please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement. Case with heavy wear, signs of polish, and oxidation. Rectangular chronograph pushers with heavy and significant wearing down to the metal. Heavy wear and oxidation to the crown. Case back with wear and potentially polished in the past. Serial number to the case back is not visible. Upper lugs with some heavier signs of wear. Upper right lug with some loss of the chamfer detailing. Left side case band with some wear and pitting likely from opening and closing. Dial is nicely preserved with an even oxidation throughout. Some heavier yellow oxidation especially between 12 - 4. Lighter surface markings throughout. Dot markings and debris throughout. Movement in overall good condition with some wear. Service is recommended Chronograph function working with some resistance. Triple calendar function working properly.

Catalogue Note

Reference 4768 launched in 1947 in an extremely limited series of approximately 220 examples in stainless steel, yellow gold, pink gold, and in combinations of stainless steel with yellow or pink gold. 

The present example has an original vintage dial with pink gold pyramid indexes and a vivid blue date ring.
