Catalogue Note

Accompanied by an Extract from the Archives confirming the year of manufacture in 1944 and date of sale on February 24th, 1945.

With its distinctive angular lugs and square buttons, Ref. 1579 is among Patek Philippe's most iconic chronograph wristwatches. Examples from this first generation differ from the later examples, as applied square indexes began to replace the original enamel baton indexes starting around 1950.

Patek Philippe made fewer than ten examples annually of Ref. 1579 in pink gold during the two decades of its production. The present example's two tone detail of the pink dial enhances its attractiveness and desirability.

The movement of an example from this reference is illustrated in Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, Patek Philippe Wristwatches, vol. 2, 2nd ed., p. 265.
