The present lot is very rare with a 14k yellow gold case, made for the American Market with the ROW import code notated on the balance cock. It is interesting to note that the case and case back are engraved for Ref. 6238, commonly referred to as the Pre-Daytona, yet the dial and bezel are those from Ref. 6241. The watch was hence likely constructed in a transitional period. An identical example was sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, May 6, 2002, lot 369, in the sale "Sporting Time: An Important Collection of Rolex Wristwatches."
