Description

  • George Nakashima
  • Triple Sliding Door Cabinet
  • American black walnut and pandanus cloth

Provenance

Commissioned directly from the artist by the present owner, circa 1970

Condition

Overall in very good condition. When viewed in person, the wood displays a warmer color than seen in the catalogue illustration, with richer and redder hues. The wood surfaces present with minor surface scratches, abrasions and light surface soiling consistent with age and gentle use. The pandanus cloth with some irregularities inherent in the making and a few isolated areas of minor losses and light wear to the weave, notably along the proper right edge of the proper right door, visible in the catalogue illustration and in the proper left corner of the right door. The lower edge with a few scattered minor dents, not visually distracting and consistent with age and gentle use. The interior with six compartments behind the right and left doors and shelves in the center (which could be converted into six compartment if wanted). Overall a classic example of Nakashima elegant design, the top presents with a light undulation to the board, accentuated with darker peg joints. Acquired directly from the artist by the present owner.
