Description

  • Ceramic
the compressed globular body surmounted by a tall cylindrical neck with a flared rim, finely painted with a large five-clawed dragon writhing amid flames and clouds, with its young below striding among crashing waves, the base with a six-character seal mark

Provenance

Louis Joseph, Inc., Boston, Massachusetts, late 1950s - early 1960s.

Condition

There is restoration to the rim to cover some losses to a section measuring approx. 2.9 cm wide, as well as to cover an approx. 3.8 cm section that has been broken into three pieces and restuck. A section of the foot ring appears to have been very slightly polished to make the vase sits evenly, possibly original to manufacture. Some very light surface wear and minor firing imperfections, as can be expected.
