Provenance

Offered at Sotheby's New York, 15th September 1999, lot 59.

Condition

The 'finger citron' tree of both censers may have been later soldered to the jardinière. One jardinière with a filled repair to the mid-section of one of the flanges extending from the bottom edge, and the other jardinière with a break and some associated losses to the corner of one flange, both not visible when the jardinières are inserted into the censers. Both censers with occasional patches of old infill. Otherwise, the censers are in general good condition with some scattered minor losses and dents, most noticeable to the rims. Some expected wear to the surface and minor casting flaws, consistent with age and type. Please note that this lot includes a stand, frame or other component made from a type of Chinese hardwood, which, if exported, will require a CITES permit to leave the United States.
