A PAIR OF CANTON ENAMEL 'PHOENIX' DISHES QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY

Description

  • enamel and copper
each brightly enamelled with a long-tailed crested bird and a pheasant perched on rockwork issuing peony, lily, and chrysanthemum stems, reserved on a plain white ground within a black foliate band, with a blue foliate band at the rim, the underside with floral sprigs centred by a pomegranate on a white ground

Condition

Both dishes are in very good condition with the exception of some light crazing to the white enamel between 11 and 2 o'clock and an infill to a circa 3.5 x 0.5cm., section of the footring on one dish and light crazing to the white enamel in the well around 7 o'clock on the other dish, and light enamel scratches and very minor rubbing to both dishes.
