Description

  • CLOIOSNNE AND GILT-BRONZE
the square tapering body rising from a short spreading foot to an angled shoulder and short flaring neck, brightly enamelled to each face of the body with a taotie mask divided by gilt-bronze notched flanges, repeated at the corners, the foot and neck with stylised lotus and dragon bands similarly divided, the shoulder set with a pair of dragon handles

Condition

There are areas of restoration to both of the sides of the vase, as well as a small areas of restoration to the enamel to the top left and right sections to the front and back sides. There is quite extensive rubbing to most of the areas of gilding to the vase. The right hand handle is loose to its upper join to the body and one flange is missing to the centre of the foot to the front side. There are also nicks to the rim and foot and various nicks and scratches to the enamel throughout.
