  • lacquer
of circular form with flat upper and lower surfaces, delicately carved overall through the layers of rich cinnabar lacquer with floral blossoms and leaves, with pomegranates decorated in diaper patterns against a diapered ground of similar pattern, the interior lacquered black

Condition

There has been restoration to the sides of the cover, where it has been broken in several places. There are some crack lines evident through this restoration. There is also extensive re-lacquering to the diaper ground to the exterior (cover and base) and there is an 8mm by 2mm chip to the lacquer to the edge of the cover to one side. There is also some restoration to the rim of the base, which has most likely been broken and the interior of the cover and base have also been re-lacquered. There are also some chips and nicks to the interior rim of the base. There are two small areas of lacquer missing to the lower surface of the base and some cracking to the lacquer across some of the leaves.
