the oval pebble exquisitely worked in low relief, one face depicting a seated lady playing the flute in a fenced garden with a phoenix dancing on the rocky ledge above, the reverse inscribed with a poetic inscription and signed Zigang, pierced with a small aperture at the top for attachment, the stone of an attractive white colour

Provenance

An English private collection, acquired in Hong Kong from 1967-89, and thence by descent.

Condition

The pebble is in good condition. The catalogue illustration is a tinge brighter than the actual colour of the stone.
