the substantial stone of oblong cylindrical form, the top with a sloping channel worked in low relief with a pavilion emerging from vapourous clouds and standing before mountains and cresting waves, above a concave grinding surface and a pair of dragons contesting a 'flaming pearl', the sides similarly decorated with mythical beasts and sea creatures leaping out of a tumultuous sea of foaming waves, the base with further waves and clouds interrupted by eleven tubular extensions

Condition

As visible in the catalogue photo, there are small chips to the edges of the carving, especially the inner rim. There is also a small loss to one of the tubular nodes on the underside. Box: bruises to the edges.
