  • zitan (Pterocarpus santalinus)
the terminal naturalistically carved in openwork depicting a pomegranate, peach and finger citron forming the sanduo (Three Abundances), extended to a curved shaft modelled in high relief with intertwined leafy stems issuing pomegranate fruits bursting with seeds

Condition

The short curved branch near the head of the ruyi had been broken and restuck with the original piece. The head and the shaft were made from two separate pieces of wood and attached. The sceptre with a beautifully preserved patina.
