Condition

Conserved at Williamstown Art Conversation Center. Lined, replaced stretches, craquelure, scattered inpainting (including on the figures and faces), largely to fill in some of the craquelure. Replaced frame: 54 1/2 by 45 1/2 inches.

Catalogue Note

A closely related portrait of a young girl with a cat is inscribed Painted by H. Walton, Ithaca, 1839 and was exhibited in Henry Walton, American Artist at the Ithaca College Museum of Art, 1968 and is illustrated in the exhibition catalog by Leigh Rehner.
