Catalogue Note

Whitcomb (1839-1902) lived his entire life in East Randolph. In The Paintings and the Journal of Joseph Whiting Stock, Juliette Tomlinson notes that, according to his journal, in September of 1843, Joseph Whiting Stock visited the David Whitcomb household of East Randolph, and there he painted portraits of the entire family, including six-year-old cousin Henry.
