Catalogue Note

Mrs. Wright holds a snuff box and Polly wears a pink dress. Both portraits are similar in composition to the portrait of Sophia Burpee Conant, for whom this as-yet unidentified artist is named, in the collection of the National Gallery of Art, and Polly’s portrait is strikingly so as she and Sophia wear similar dresses, sleeves, and jewelry.
