Light toning around the figure, slightly heavier toning along the margins. Antique, mahogany-veneered frame: 11 by 8 3/4 inches.

Born in Preston, Connecticut, Mary Abigail Browning (1842-1904) was painted here at age two. She married Amos T. Barnes (1831-1905) in Mystic in 1864, and the couple moved to Stonington and raised three children.
