together with two loose lengths of original loom width French floral silk brocade, with repeat motif of garden motif with watering can and exuberant plants and cauliflower form, on cream coloured ground, 17th century (approximately 187 by 55cm), illustrated on-line

Condition

Overall measurements; 25.5cm across the top, 25.5cm across the bottom, 100cm the left hand side, 102cm the right hand side. Mounted, 105 by 29cm. Comprised of two vertically joined strips. Evidence of old water damage noticeably to the upper end, with greens in the leaves running into the yellow brocade. Evidence of fading of colour with small areas of original colour in outer edges and central joined seem. First hand inspection is advised, further photographs can be requested from the department. Together with - two reduced lengths of French brocade silk, 17th century (both approximately 187 by 55cm). Not lined. Brittle ground with some splits and weaknesses and some repairs. Selvedges distressed and loose in areas. Some surface stains and discolouration. Gorgeous garden motif design. Evocative of period.
