Overall, the condition of the ivory is good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. Christs's proper left toes are reattached. There is stable splitting to the ivory, consistent with the material, including some slightly open splits to both legs, the proper left arm and the proper left side of the face. There are some patches of dirt, particularly to Christ's chest and to the inside of his legs. There is some rubbing to the polychromy of the face, including to the high points. There is some yellowing to the ivory, consistent with the material, particularly to the back. There is a plug to the top of Christ's head, which conceals the tusk's natural root canal: this plug has been slightly displaced and slightly open joints are visible.
