Description

  • An ivory tankard, French, circa 1900

  • 38cm., 15in. high
carved in high relief with maidens playing music and dancing with putti in a garden with a profusion of flowers, the finial formed of three putti holding garlands and baskets of flowers, on four supports carved as female heads among shells and scrolls, the handle carved as a naked nymph holding a garland

Condition

superb fine carving, base has come off and been reglued, one section cracked and reglued, some cracks throughout and possibly a few restoration which cannot be seen to the naked eye and do not distract from the very fine carving.
